Merit Badges

March 29, 2012 By Camden

Please read the following message from Mr. Mercer

Scouts,

There’s 120+ MBs offered by the BSA and alot of opportunities to earn MBs outside of T250. As a reminder to ALL Scouts, before starting to take a merit badge, it’s required the Scout receives a blue card (or verbal permission) from Ms. Boone, Mr. Pugh or Mr. Mercer. Turning in a blue card for a merit badge without first receiving T250 leader permission to take the badge MAY nullify receiving the badge.
We’ve discussed the BSA advancement policy multiple times during the troop meetings. We’ve also had presentations on the troop’s advancement SOP during the troop meetings. This information is not new. It’s also vital the merit badge be taught by a BSA registered MB counselor. If a Scout takes a MB outside of the Palmetto Council, it’s the responsibility of the Scout to verify the MB counselor is a registered MB counselor.
Remember: before taking a merit badge, the 1st thing needed is permission/blue card from one of the leaders above. The 2nd thing is the MB must be taught by a registered MB counselor. The 3rd thing is to have some fun and learn some new stuff as you complete the MBs.
R. Mercer
