Scouts, Parents, & Adult Leaders,
Are you ready? With summer camp departure just a day away, I trust by now you have started at least thinking about your preparation activities for summer camp. Ideally, I hope you have read through the following summer camp documents:
- Troop 250 Summer Camp Plans, Rules, & Guidelines
- Troop 250 Open House
- Camp Ottari Personal Equipment List
- Claytor Lake Personal Equipment List
This information should answer most of your questions and ensure you are properly prepared.
All summer camp participants must be at the Fort Mill BBQ parking lot this Sunday by no later than 8:00 am. If you are after 8:00 am, you will delay departure for all. 🙁 I am requesting adults who are driving to camp to park immediately adjacent to Fort Mill BBQ and all other vehicles to park over in the Lowe’s Food parking lot. Drivers pulling the trailers should be at the parking not no later than 7:50 am to ensure we can get you situated. You should have the following when you show up for departure:
Signed Permission Slip
Medicines (prescription & OTC) (includes adults also)
Personal gear packed efficiently to carry
Wear BSA uniform with bathing suit underneath
Day pack (small backpack or bag) with a copy of medical forms, snack, towel, water bottle, swim goggles (optional), lunch money
Gas money for driver – recommend $15 per Scout
Permission Slips were emailed to Scouts earlier today. If you have not received your permission slip, please contact me ASAP.
The check-in process for departing Sunday will be as follows:
Step 1 – Check in at table, turn in permission slip. If known, identify which leader you are riding with.
Step 2 – If you have medicines, turn in medicines to Health & Medical Forms Coordinator. Keep inhalers & Epi-pens in your day pack.
Step 3 – If going to Camp Ottari, report to equipment trailer to turn in your personal gear (keep your day pack). If going to Claytor Lake, place gear in adult leader vehicle going to Claytor Lake.
Step 4 – Stay tuned for instructions. NO horseplay or leaving immediate check-in area.
Adults driving to camp, please assemble together at 8:15 am for a few instructions and handouts. We will have a brief morning prayer and final instructions. We will eat lunch while in route to camp (make sure you have lunch money).
If you will be carrying prescription or over-the-counter medicines and have NOT picked up your blister pack, contact me ASAP. Please do not wait until Sunday morning to request a blister pack as I will not have these available then.
If a Scout has not yet completed the requirements for using an knife but would like to while at camp, he may bring his knife but it must be packed in his personal gear (not day pack) and cannot be brought out for use until the Totin Chip has been issued to the Scout. Scouts should seek out opportunities to earn the Totin Chip by contacting the SPL or SM at camp. Read further policy on knives in the guidance documents above.
The weather forecast for camp can be checked out here. Looks good so far.
Parents, start sending those care packages and letters very soon. The mailing addresses are in the guidance documents above.
Don’t forget about the merit badge worksheets for those taking merit badges.
Now, let’s have a great time! That is about all for now. I trust you have have received the information that you need to have a fun and safe summer camp experience using the ideals and methods of Scouting. It has been a pleasure to be your coordinator for summer camp this year!
