Please read the following message from Mr. Whitaker
Scouts, Parents, & Adult Leaders,
Wow…can you believe it is only 2.5 weeks until we begin our adventure of the summer at Camp Ottari and Claytor Lake Aquatics Base in the awesome mountains of southwest Virginia. I can’t wait! We had a great turnout to the summer camp open house last night and those in attendance are definitely prepared. How about the rest of you? Well, let me help you out if you were not able to attend. There are 4 attachments that I encourage you to review carefully:
1. Troop 250 Summer Camp Plans, Rules, & Guidelines – this document was distributed earlier this year but may be helpful to refresh your memory.
2. Troop 250 Open House – this presentation focuses on preparing for and arrival at camp. This is a must read!
3. Camp Ottari Equipment List – this is a recommended list of personal equipment that all Scouts/Adults attending the merit badge and Brownsea Island Program at Camp Ottari should consider. BSI participants should also review page 2 of this attachment. Please note that the weather in the mountains of Virginia in early June can be quite variable so say the least. I will look at the weather forecast before we leave and advise if adjustments are recommended.
4. Claytor Lake Equipment List – this is a recommended list of personal equipment that all Scouts/Adults attending Claytor Lake must read.
A little note on personal tents…Scouts do NOT need to bring a tent. This includes BSI Scouts who do NOT have an over-nighter and who do NOT need a tent. The camp provides all the accommodations that is needed for Scouts and Adult Leaders. The equipment lists above are all that you really need. In the past a few adult leaders have found it preferable to use there own personal tent. However, you should be aware that in many of these campsites, the terrain may not be preferable for tents due to slope, rocks, rain water, etc. so be prepared if you plan to use your own tent. As Mr. Scott says….”Just Sayin”!
Several of you picked up medicine blister packs last night at the open house. For those of you who have not picked them up yet, I will have them available at next Monday’s COH until 7pm and after the COH. Remember, Scouts and Adults must use the blister packs for all prescription & OTC medicines per camp and BSA policy (exceptions noted in Open House document). Please don’t wait until departure morning to ask for these packs.
I will be sending out the schedules for the merit badge sign-ups early next week so that you can begin work on the prerequisites if applicable. Permission slips will go out 3-4 days before departure. If you have any questions, please let me know.
