Troop 250 Communication Update
For several years the troop has been using an email communication system called Mailman. Recently, we have been plagued with SPAM problems with this mail system. We have been searching for alternatives ways to communicate to scouts and parents via email.
One of the new methods being used now is sending email using our TroopMaster advancement software system. Troop communication emails are sent to emails addresses stored in the scout or adult records.
Another communication/email system approach we are going to use is through our Troop’s website. There are two sections of the website we will be using to communicate to you.
One section is the blog page. The blog page is used for “Public” Troop news, primarily to communicate an event or announcement via posts. Post are written by a limited number of authorized users. Posts are public, so anyone visiting the website can read the blog post.
The second website section, which is new, is the groups section. We have added a feature to our Troop website which makes a portion of the website a group/messaging/info sharing collection point, somewhat similar to Facebook. Anybody who is an approved registered user can see and post information in one of the 4 private groups we have created. The groups are private and can only be seen by registered users of the group. To see and take part in the group sharing community, you must register to be a user of the website. There are 4 private groups called Troop Committee, Troop 250 All Members, Adult Leaders, Youth Leaders.
To participate in groups and to receive email notifications when a new blog or group post is published, you must self-register as a user to our Troop’s website. Here is how to register:
Go to our Troop’s website http://www.bsa250.org/troop250/. Once there, click on one of the two registration links. One link is at the very top left in the black band. The 2nd link is in the gold navigation band. During registration, you can select which groups you want to be part of. All scouts and parents should at least register for the “Troop 250 All Members” group. If you are a leader or on the committee, sign up for one or all of the other groups. Once you register, you will be sent an email to activate your account. Once your account is active you can login into the website and see the group activity by going to the groups page or pages you registered for. Any registered user can post and read messages to the group. Also, as a registered website user, you will get email notifications of any new blog post or group post. You can unsubscribe to any or all of the groups at any time on your own.
When you get a chance, please register on our Troop Website. Here is a direct link to the registration page http://www.bsa250.org/troop250/register/
