Troop,
Here’s the troop calendar for the upcoming 2013 – 14 year. The attached calendars are in 2 versions – 1 is for Scout outings/activities only and the 2nd is for all troop outings/activities (Scout outing/activities, leader training, committee meetings, etc).
The PLC has put together a calendar of new adventures while keeping some “tried and true” favorites while eliminating some outings repeated over the past few years.
There are several things to pay close attention to:
1) The PLC (Patrol Leaders Council) meetings will be moving from Sunday to Monday nights, typically meeting on the 1st Monday of each month unless it’s a holiday. On the nights of the PLC meetings, there will NOT be a troop meeting. Only the patrol leaders and the youth leadership will be meeting on PLC nights.
2) No troop meetings when school is out and/or on holidays.
3) Less “car camping” and more “backpacking-style” outings.
4) There are several T250 Days of Service when the troop will complete a day (or weekend) of community service to give back and improve our communities. This is in addition to Scouting for Food.
5) No schedule conflicts and/or overlapping of events – no troop outings scheduled to conflict with any York District, Palmetto Council or Order of the Arrow (OA) outing.
6) New activities added this year – a zip line canopy tour in Asheville, team building at the U.S. Whitewater Center, a corn maze, hidden gem mining and the GA Aquarium. Several activities not returning to this year’s calendar – deep sea fishing, caving, the Yorktown, the horseback riding trip.
There is always tweaking of the calendar as the year progresses due to availability & scheduling, but these are the outings planned for the Scouting year. I look forward to the Scouting year with a lot of new outings and adventures. It’s going to be a great year for creating a lifetime of memories.
